A Note from Raevyn

The days since the election have been rough. I’ve gone from feeling overwhelmed with sadness to fiery rage. I am fearful for my family (blood-related and not). The world has been turned upside-down for so many of us, and the reports from all over the US are scary. But they are also some hopeful things out there.

There are people protesting and standing up for each other. There are new groups forming and current ones getting stronger. We are ramping up for what might be the battle of our lives.

I am nearly fifty years old and have been in this fight my entire life, trying to stop racism, homophobia, sexism, xenophobia. I watched people get beaten and abused for who they are. I was one of them.

I thought we were finally on the downhill slope, but I was wrong. We have more to fight.

And so, we fight.

Step up when you see someone being abused. Stand with your brothers and sisters by marching, volunteering, and working to make the US a safer place. Get out there and make a difference. If you are afraid, do it in groups. Be a voice for reason, for well-being, for love.

Starting this month, NineStar Press and I will be donating to Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, The Trevor Project, RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), and the National Center for Transgender Equality. (These donations will not be based on sales or certain books.)

Also, starting next week, we will be adding a section to the newsletter for information on other charities and programs to help our community. If you know of one that should be highlighted, please email us at contact@ninestarpress.com.

I want you all to know that I will be standing next to you. We won’t, can’t, let the bullies win. We will win this fight for us, our kids, and the generations that follow.

With all my love,
Raevyn
